'NIPOGA, tool for national unity'

Date: 2016-03-01

President of Council, Nigeria Polytechnic Games, Alhaji Shettima Abdulkadir; the Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Alhaji Mas'ud Elelu; and Kwara State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Amina Ahmed on Sunday said NIPOGA was one of the veritable platforms for national unity.

They stated this during the meeting of the Council of NIPOGA, in Ilorin, Kwara State. Saying it will help identify, nurture and harness sporting talents, they added that the discovered talents could bring international laurels to Nigeria and also earn a living through sports.

Abdulkadir, who is also the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa, said the adoption of innovation, science and technology to the games was vital and called on the Federal Government to invest more in NIPOGA. He stated that Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa, would host the 19th edition of NIPOGA between September and October.

Abdulkadir said, "The Federal Government actually should be the backbone for the success of such games. Basically, we talk in terms of funding, not only in organising the games but also in providing the necessary infrastructure and facilities."
