ASUU Ilorin Zone Leaders Link Strike To FG's Inaction

Date: 2013-07-27

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ilorin Zone, have attributed the on-going nationwide strike by its members to inaction on the part of the federal government.

It also condemned the authorities of the University of Ilorin for allegedly recognising Prof. Wahab Egbewole's faction of the institution's ASUU, saying the group had been invalidated by the National Industrial Court (NIC).

The body, in a statement by the coordinator of the zone and the Ekiti State University ASUU's chairman, Dr Ayan Adeleke, said the federal government's inability to fulfill its promises, which include proper  funding, federal assistance to all universities,26% budgetary allocation to education, prompt payment of allowances and setting up of research  equipment to laboratories , triggered the current  crisis.

The statement was also signed by ASUU's chairmen in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State University, Osogbo, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akure, Prof. Akiola A.P., Dr. Seye Abiona, Dr. Alex Odiyi, Dr. Oyegoke O.O. and  Dr. Busuyi Mekuyi respectively.
