The 22-year-old accused allegedly conspired with two others now at large and rob some students of the Kwara State Polytechnic of their properties.

Police arrested the accused following a report on March 14 at Oke-Oyi Division by one of the victim (name withheld) of Ajala Villa, Poly Gate, Ilorin, that while she and her friends were waiting for bus at Poly Gate Bus stop, the accused and two others now at large robbed them of their valuables at gunpoint.

According to the victim, the hoodlums dispossessed them of N980, and GSM handsets.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State Investigation Department, Ilorin, revealed that the accused, one Sodiq and Mustapha now at large are members of the notorious Aiye secret cult that robbed the victims their handsets, hand chain and the sum of N980 at gunpoint.

The FIR added that further investigation has revealed that the accused and others are notorious Aiye secret cult members terrorising innocent students of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin of their valuables.

The accused was brought before the court on a three-count charge of criminal onspiracy, robbery and being a member of secret cult, contrary to Sections 97, 298 of Penal Code Law and 11 (1) of Secret Cult and Secret Society in Educational Institution (Prohibited), Law 2004.

The prosecutor objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody pending the outcome of investigation.

The trial judge, Magistrate A.I. Dasuki ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, until April 14 when the matter would come up for further mention.
