Jonathan's visit: Kwara Police deploys 4,000 men to mount surveillance

As President Goodluck Jonathan arrives Ilorin today for the Kwara State Chapter of the People's Democratic Party  (PDP) reception, the State Police Command yesterday said about 4,000 men had been dispatched to beef up security in the state capital.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, who spoke in a telephone   interview with The Herald disclosed that the force had mobilized the needed resources to make the presidential visit hitch-free.

He stated that a number of policemen had been placed in strategic spots within the metropolis to mount surveillance and ensure that there were no security lapses.

Ayayi enjoined residents to be law-abiding and conduct themselves in an orderly manner throughout the duration of Mr. President's visit.

He said, "we are fully on ground. As I speak now, I can't give you the actual figure of our men that had been deployed for presidential visit but tentatively about 4,000 of them, because this is Mr President's visit.

"We want to call on our people particularly residents of the state to be law-abiding and conduct themselves."

Also speaking, the chairman, publicity committee of the state caretaker committee of the PDP, Alhaji Mohammed Mariam Al-Hassan, noted that preparation was on top gear to make the president's visit memorable.

He urged party supporters to troop out en-masse to receive the number one citizen, just as he asked people to maintain law and order during the visit.
