Kwara Seals Eight Ilorin Hotels for Operating Without Licence and Failing Environmental Standards

Date: 2025-08-18

The Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has sealed eight hotels in Ilorin for operating without valid documentation and failing to meet required environmental and safety standards for hospitality establishments.

The enforcement action was led by Mr. Aminullahi Abdulrahman, Head of KWEPA's Department for Hotels, following multiple warnings and opportunities given to the affected hotels to regularise their operations.

Abdulrahman confirmed that the establishments were notified repeatedly but failed to comply with regulatory requirements.

Speaking on the exercise, Hon. Jide Aina, General Manager of KWEPA, stated that the agency acted in accordance with the Kwara State Environmental Law.

He emphasized that the goal is not to intimidate business owners, but to uphold standards that safeguard public health, safety, and environmental integrity.

The sealed hotels will remain closed until full compliance is achieved and necessary approvals are obtained.

"This is not about targeting businesses but about ensuring that hospitality operators adhere to both local and international standards. A clean, safe, and healthy environment remains a top priority for the Kwara State government," Aina said.

He further noted that strict enforcement within the hospitality sector safeguards residents, promotes public health, and creates a conducive environment for investors and tourists.
