Governor Saraki appeals to PDP ward chairmen to be open in the issuance of party's membership card

Date: 2010-10-23

As election into the Local Government Councils in Kwara State draws nearer, the State Governor, Dr Bukola Saraki has appealed to wards Chairmen of PDP not to discriminate against any member in the issuance of party’s membership cards.

Similarly, the Governor also drum support for the party and all its aspirants at Saturday’s local government poll in order to ensure the sustenance of its people-oriented programmes at grassroots level.

Dr Saraki made the appeal at the weekend at Fufu, headquarters of Ilorin South Local Government while addressing the people of Kwara Central Senatorial District at an interactive session with the PDP ward executives, party leaders and supporters from the district.

The interactive session, which commenced on Friday at Lafiagi with the people of Kwara North is to be rounded off in Offa on Monday where the governor is expected to address the people of Kwara South on the preparation so far ahead the forthcoming local government council poll in the State.

Saraki, who tasked the party executives as well as the teeming supporters of PDP in the senatorial district to deliver for the party on Saturday, also directed wards chairmen to ensure that membership card gets to all party members including new members.

He said the voters’ cards issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission should be jealously guarded to ensure that they were not disenfranchised during the local government election and the subsequent elections.

PDP, the governor said, must carry the day come next Saturday as that was the only thing that could prove them as having been working assiduously for the party all these while.

Dr Saraki, who had earlier inspected structures at the school of preliminary studies constructed by the out-going chairman of Ilorin South Local Government, Barrister Lanre Daibu, commended him for his outstanding performance, which he noted was worthy of emulation.

Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of PDP in the State, Alhaji Issa Bawa had told the governor that the party was fully ready for the council poll and assured that PDP will clinch all the chairmanship and councillorship positions at the poll.

Also speaking, the PDP chairman for the senatorial district, Alhaji Jimoh Adeshina assured the governor that the party would record 100% victory in the area at the local government election.

Alhaji Adeshina also enjoined supporters of the party in the senatorial district to keep their voters’ cards safely to enable them discharge their civic duties.

All the Youth leaders from the district who spoke at the interactive session also pledged their commitment to ensure the success of the party at the council poll.
