Rainstorm causes havoc in Kwara

Date: 2014-03-25

Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed during a rainstorm in Oyun and Offa local government areas of Kwara State.

The rainstorm followed two earlier heavy rain falls in the last two weeks rendering many families homeless.

However, Community Mirror findings showed that no lives were lost to the rainstorm which blew off roofs and damaged electric poles.

In Offa, the affected areas include Afelele, Adeleke and Ijagbo, thereby throwing the residents in darkness because of the damages done to electric installations.

Also in Offa, according to findings, victims of the disaster are now calling on NEMA and the state government to come to their aid as a way to cushion the hardships the rainstorm has subjected them to.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Razak Atunwa has called on the relevant agencies including the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, to aid the victims to ameliorate their suffering.
