Date: 2024-08-18

According to a news report from This Day, there was a heart-stopping incident on the Obbo-Osi Road in Kwara State's Ekiti Local Government Area, where suspected kidnappers intercepted a bus carrying 13 passengers. Thankfully, vigilant members of local vigilante groups sprang into action and successfully rescued all the passengers.

The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Friday when the bus was travelling from Abuja to Ilorin. The suspected kidnappers, armed with guns, intercepted the vehicle and attacked its occupants, forcing them into the bush.

However, the quick response of the vigilante groups proved crucial. Upon receiving information about the kidnapping, they mobilised swiftly, pursued the kidnappers, and rescued the passengers. One of the passengers, who sustained a serious leg injury from a gunshot, is receiving treatment in a hospital in Osi town.

The Kwara State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident and the successful rescue of all abducted passengers.

Also speaking with journalists in Ilorin yesterday, the National President of Isolo Opin Development Association in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state, Mr. Alaba Kumuyi, who confirmed the incident, said the vigilantes in the area have reduced 13 passengers kidnapped by the suspected kidnappers while one of them that sustained serious injuries has been taken to hospital for medical attention.

Kumuyi who decried the activities of the suspected kidnappers in the area urged the government to take more proactive steps to stem down the incessant activities of kidnappers along major towns in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.

He added that the activities of the suspected kidnappers have prevented many farmers from going to their farms.

Kumuyi also said that the ugly situation has led to the untimely death of innocent members of the communities in the local government in the state.
