Ahmed Warns Against Students' Late Resumption
Kwara state government has reaffirmed its commitment to the provision of adequate infrastructure for educational institutions in the state to create the necessary conducive atmosphere for learning.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed stated this yesterday when he paid an unscheduled visit to Government Secondary School, Ilorin to assess its infrastructural needs and the general state of the school.
The governor, in an interaction with the principal and other staff of the school, said government would no longer accept a situation where students resume after holidays at will warning that the school authorities must evolve a system to check students' excesses.
"We can't continue like this. The students must be disciplined. We must bequeath a working system to the coming generation. The existing infrastructure must be maintained. Things were working and this was what resulted in the quality students that we had".
The governor said a lot more was still required to move the school to the standard that would support real human capital development, one of the cardinal objectives of the administration.
He added that such unscheduled visits would continue to be paid to institutions, agencies and parastatals in the state to ascertain their levels of performance in line with government policy of a strong emphasis on performance management, monitoring and reward through performance contracts.
Principal of the school, Dr. Abdukadir Abdulganiyu, who conducted the governor round the premises, said that the school has a total population of 650 students, including exchange programme students from other states of the federation.
