Stop Petrol Haulage By Road, NURTW Tells FG

Date: 2016-01-17

The federal government has been advised to make it mandatory for petroleum dealers in the country to transport their products through the rail transportation system.

Chairman,National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Kwara State, Alh Issa Ore, made the call during an interview with LEADERSHIP Sunday in Ilorin. Ore said such a step would not only reduce damages done to the roads by heavy duty trucks, but would ensure that the products are not diverted.

The NURTW chairman also urged the government to fix all the refineries and depots to ensure adequate supply of the product. He warned that if government fails to put things right in the oil sector, the NURTW might be forced to increase transport fare.

Ore also appealed to the federal government to expand and repair all major federal roads across the country so as to reduce accidents on the highways. He also hailed the introduction of the speed limiters by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) but appealed to the federal government to subsidise the cost.
