Kaiama LG boss advocates intensive youth empowerment through sports sponsorship.
The chairman of the Kaiama local government area of Kwara, Alhaji Alhassan Bagudu has pledged to intensify on youth development and empowerment through sponsorship of sporting events. Bagudu stated this in Kaiama, Kaiama local government at the official closing of the fifth Kwara Speaker's Soccer Cup organised by the state chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON).
According to him, the council has through the sponsorship of the event promote unity among the people of the area and participants from other part of the state.
The council boss said that he was overwhelmed with the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited by participants in the game.
"I don't have any course to regret that the council sponsors this tournament. I wish to let you know that come next year, we are still going to do the same.
"I was told that for the past ten days that this event has been going on, the participants have been making friends among themselves and among the people of Kaiama. This is in promotion of unity that we have been talking about", he said.
He explained that his administration had seen sports as platform for youth empowerment and development.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the chairman of the YSFON, Mr Ademola Kiyesola commended the Kaiama council for a wonderful and successful host of the competition.
He asserted that the tournament had enabled the YSFON to discover some talents, which would be recommended to Kwara Football Academy and the state Football Association.
He urged the local government to sustain its support for sports development. Meanwhile, the Kaiama United FC of Kaiama have emerged the winner of the 2014 edition of the soccer tournament after defeating the Champions FC of Ilorin by 2-1 in the final match of the soccer tourney decided at the Kaiama pitch. Sodiq Saka put the Champions FC infront in the second half before the Kaiama United came from behind to triumph through goals by Mohammed Abubakar and Shuaib Abdulrahman. Ilorin East FC came third after a 2-0 victory over the Flying Stars of Kaiama.
