Kwara commissioner urges govts to reestablish grazing reserve
This is to guide against the frequent crisis existing between the arable farmers and the Fulanis.
Dr Kannike who is the Kwara State Commissioner for Works and Transport made the call while featuring on a Radio Kwara personality interview programme.
He also suggested that Nigerians should be encouraged to engage in what he described as zero grasing where lands are cultivated for grains so as to restrict the movement of animals from place to place and even take care of the animal needs during the dry seasons.
Kannike also called on various tiers of government to cultivate the idea of Shonga Farms where the movements of cattle were restricted as their feeding is structured.
He described the crisis between the arable farmers and the Nomadic Fulanis as a national one and a long time problem which needed to be resolved amicably to avoid further damage on farm land and daily misunderstanding between the Fulanis and the farmers.
Dr Kannike noted that to be a successful veterinary surgeon, one needs to be patient, fearless and be more versatile, adding that a veterinary could equally carry out caesarean section operation.
