Supermom Season 4 kicks off nationwide
The Supermom TV reality show has finally kicked off nationwide. Once rated most-viewed show in the country, this year's edition promises to be better than the past editions. The show is being broadcast almost simultaneously in seven television stations across the country, including AIT, Africa Magic, V-channel, MITV, Kwara TV, ABS, and CRBC.
"This season four of Supermom aptly tagged 'Heart of Gold' will be bigger and better than the past three editions. That is not to dismiss the past editions, what we have actually done is looked at what we have done in time past and deliberately worked to improve on them despite the fact that they were of high quality. We worked on production input, the drama, cast and entries. People will definitely enjoy the show," the CEO of Digital Interactive Media, producers of the show, Sola Fajobi said on Thursday
The first and second editions of the show focused on mothers whose stories their children told with emotive convictions. The stories bordered on the sacrifice, pain and sheer hardship that 20 women went through in raising their kids.
Some of the chosen 'Super' moms had their sons watching as their stories were narrated before millions of Nigerians. Their stories were told with short dramas while the eventual winners were decided via votes from members of the public.
The first set of winners won brand new houses, the first runner up, brand new cars while the second runner up smiled home with cash prizes.
The focused shifted in 2012 with mothers of celebrities appearing on the show. In the end, the mothers of about 20 celebrities gave rare personal accounts of how they raised their children. Some stories moved the audience to tears while others invoked pensive mood laced with mild laughter brought about by knowing assurance that the end justified the means.
This time, the focus is on mothers who raised children that they did not give birth to. The founders of motherless babies' homes and various charity organisations naturally will assume the front burner.
In the first edition, Mrs. Gladys Asuquo, mother of celebrity music producer, Cohbams Asuquo, won the first prize, while Mrs. Omobonike Anike, mother of Abass Akande PK1, and Mrs. Martinez Sanni, mother of Skales, were first and second runners-up respectively. They won cash prizes ranging from N500,000 to N2m.
