Operatives of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested a 33-year-old man, Moshood Banke, for the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl in the Basin area of Ilorin, the state capital.

The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, November 1, 2026, following a formal report lodged by the victim's family regarding an assault that allegedly occurred on October 17, 2026.

Preliminary investigations by the Corps revealed that the suspect intercepted the minor while she was returning from an errand, forced her into an uncompleted building within the neighborhood, and sexually assaulted her.

Further details disclosed that Banke was familiar to the victim's family and a regular customer at her mother's food vending shop. He reportedly absconded from the neighborhood immediately after the incident but was spotted by the victim on November 1, leading to his arrest by NSCDC personnel.

A formal medical examination conducted on the minor confirmed evidence of sexual assault, providing vital documentation for the ongoing investigation.

Reacting to the development, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, condemned the act, describing sexual violence against minors as an unacceptable breach of human dignity and child rights.

Commandant Abbas assured the public of the command's commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals, confirming that the suspect will be formally prosecuted in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

He further called on parents, guardians, and community members to maintain vigilance and promptly report all instances of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) to security agencies.
