Kwara Government pledges improved corps members' welfare

Date: 2022-02-11

The Kwara Government has renewed its resolve to improve the welfare of NYSC members posted to the state.

The government promised to ensure that no stone is left unturned in its intent to make the atmosphere favourable and conducive for the corps members.

The state Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Jamila Adamu-Bake, stated this when the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) State Coordinator, Mrs Francesca Olaleye, paid a courtesy call to her office on Thursday.

The commissioner attributed the improvement in the welfare of corps members to the commitment and dedication of Gov. AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq to the affairs of youths.

She noted that this commitment has led to the development and great improvement at the Kwara NYSC orientation camp at Yikpata, thereby providing befitting accommodation for corps members and also ensuring their safety, among others things.

The commissioner stressed that the negative reports in respect of the orientation camp that had scared a lot of prospective corps members from serving in the state had been addressed by the governor.

She applauded the governor for making the environment conducive for indigenes and non-indigenous corps members.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Iyabo Banire, emphasised the ministry's dedication to the development of youths.

She appreciated the NYSC for its contributions to the development of the state through its various programmes and also the various skill acquisition taught to corps members, as it will go a long way in assisting and setting them up after the service year.

She urged them not to relent as the knowledge gathered by the corps members would help in shaping their lives.

Banire also thanked the governor for his magnanimity towards NYSC and the youths as a whole, adding that AbdulRasaq does not treat the affairs of the youth and NYSC with levity, hence the constant renovations being made at the orientation camp.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Francesca Olaleye, had earlier appreciated the governor for the dexterity he showed when it comes to handling anything that has to do with corps members.

She explained to that suspects when called upon, especially when it pertains to youth matters.

Olaleye further disclosed that the NYSC passing out parade for this year would be a joint ceremonial affair to be held in Lafia, as against the last couple of years when the celebration took place in various local government areas of the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic.NAN
