The menace of truancy in Kwara state needs to be curtailed, says AbdulRazaq

Date: 2019-07-20

Truancy has been on an alarming increase, which has led to the increase of beggars as well as petty crimes on the streets of Kwara. To deal with this menace in the state, His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq today held a meeting with the head of the physically challenged individuals in the state Seriki 'Mekafo' in his home at Gambari area of Ilorin.

Governor AbdulRazaq after observing his Jumaat prayer at Soheebul Bayan Mosque, visited the head of the physically challenged who said they have been seeking help but have been unlucky to find favour in the sight of the previous administrations. They therefore sought the governor's indulgence to help their situation.

According to the Seriki, they have tried to get the help of the international community in building of schools and also in training them to be self sufficient. However, the major impediment to this is lack of land.

Furthermore, he stated that if they are given land, they will be better off as where they stay now is far from being conducive living conditions and a long way away from encouraging industrious engagement.

The governor reiterated his administration's readiness to revamp the education sector and key into the federal government school feeding program which he believes, if well managed, will reduce to a great extent numbers of children who have become truants in the state.

AbdulRazaq promised them that his recent visit to Kwara State School for Special Needs will bring forth its fruit and dilapidated schools in the state inherited by his administration will wear a new look soon to provide conducive environment suitable for academic excellence.
