Only One Borno LG Is Under Boko Haram - Speaker
Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, who is also the Chairman, Conference of Speakers of Houses of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, yesterday said only one local government is yet to be recaptured from the Boko Haram insurgents.
He made the disclosure in Ilorin, Kwara State, while speaking at the Conference of Speakers of Houses of Assembly, organised to deliberate on the criminal justice system.
"As of now, only one local government is yet to be liberated from the clutches of the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State. That is Abadam, located along the Niger Republic border. Nineteen local governments are now under the control of the military and the people are gradually returning to their homes. We have never experienced this kind of commitment from the military. They have driven the Boko Haram into the bushes. I am sure that the military will meet the December deadline to end insurgency", he said.
Lawan added: "The Chief of Army Staff is leading the military. Various local governments captured by Boko Haram have been recaptured. So, now only Abadam Local Government is yet to be liberated; and am sure that it will be free soon".
The Speaker also urged people of the area to support the military "to find end to this madness".
"Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States have suffered a lot because of the security challenge in the past six years", he said.
