Ahmed denies lobbying for PDP return
Kwara State Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has dismissed allegations that he had been lobbying the presidency to return to the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) for the party's gubernatorial ticket.
The governor described the allegation as the mischievous machination of people "devoid of any modicum of dignity but only out to rehabilitate their dwindling political relevance."
This was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba.
Insinuations that the governor was lobbying to return to the PDP have been rife in recent times. It would be recalled that the governor had dumped the PDP for APC alongside his predecessor, Dr. Bukola Saraki and their supporters.
"Contrary to the report that Governor Ahmed was at the Presidential Villa on August 6, 2014, where he sought audience with President Goodluck Jonathan for a possible return to the PDP, he was in Ilorin attending to serious state matters," the statement said.
It said the intention of those peddling the rumour is to cause disaffection within the APC family in Kwara State, adding that they feel threatened by the increasing popularity of the party in the state.
