Kwara votes N3.2bn for infrastructure in 2014

Date: 2013-12-27

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has voted N3.219 billion for infrastructure development in the state’s 2014 appropriation bill.

This is contained in the N124.5 billion budget proposal presented by Ahmed before the state House of Assembly.

A copy of the bill, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, showed that priority was given to on-going road projects in the state.

The governor said that efforts in 2014 would be geared towards the completion of the Cargo Terminal Complex at the Ilorin International Airport with Apron and Taxi-way.

He said that attention would be on equipping the International Aviation College, Ilorin, by purchasing two additional aircraft for the practical training of students.

The bill also proposed to construct and rehabilitate more roads across the state, including Ilesha Baruba-Gwanara-Okuta road in Baruten Local Government Area.

In his reaction, Mallam Sulaiman Yaru-Yite, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, in Baruten, lauded the inclusion of Ilesha-Baruba-Gwanara-Okuta road in the proposal.

He said in Okuta on Friday that construction of the road would improve the socioeconomic development of the boarder area.

The NURTW boss also commended the state government for including the boarder communities’ roads in the budget.

He said that the development drive in the area would compel the people to have a sense of belonging in the nation’s development efforts.
