Fuel queues persist in Ilorin

Date: 2012-04-11

Long queues of vehicles have resurfaced in Ilorin following the suspension of sale of the product by some filing stations in the metropolis. It was gathered that the few that are dispensing, are selling above the officials pump price of N97.00 per litre. The situation has given rise to the emergence of black marketers, who have taken advantage of the situation to sell fuel between N100.00 and N120.00 per litre. The Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) had earlier assured that the product would be available in all filling stations from last Saturday.

Kwara State Chairman of IPMAN, Mr. Bolaji Agbolade denied that the independent markers jerked up the pump price of petrol from the prescribed N97 to N100. Agbolade attributed scarcity of the product in Ilorin to the activities of vandals. He said the supply of petroleum from Ibadan depot to Oke-Oyi depot has been stalled due to incessant attacks on oil installations by vandals. Efforts to reach the Department of Petroleum Resources for comments proved abortive.
