Group Calls on KWSG to Review LUK in Light of Public Outcry
The group, a Non-Government organisation, noted that since good governance is premised on carrying out people-centric projects, then the onus is on the Kwara State Government to review initial disposition of the people to any projects it may which to carry out.
"We have come to understand that there is a notable outcry against project LUK, which the state government intends to carry out, and has tenaciously defended.
However, we call on the government, in the spirit of transparent governance, to urgently reappraise its reasons for the project and to ensure that the project is truly beneficial in the medium to long term. In the same vein, we demand that the State Government implement other projects to demonstrate its readiness to meet other yearning needs of Kwarans".
Meanwhile, the group has condemned in strong terms, the usual approach of other stakeholders, who look at every projects or programs of government from a biased perspective, adding that this approach will not lead Kwara forward.
"We condemn the approach of the Joint Action Against Corruption in Kwara (JAACK), and other stakeholders, whose attack on policies and programs of government is usually skewed by political undertone and differences.
We believe that making allegations that are frivolous and unfounded against personalities in government is at best, primordial, and does not move any society forward.
In this fight against corruption, and enshrining the tenets of transparent governance in Kwara, we must all ensure that we rely on empirical facts in our assertions, and not fight back just because we are not part of the ruling system.
The Kwara State we seek to bequeath to future generations must be that which is free from myopic sectarian agendas, and one that respect divergent views without any politics of calumny", the statement concluded.
