The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Barrister Kayode Towoju, has solicited for the participation, collaboration and support of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, in the monthly sanitation exercise in order to ensure joint efforts in creating a safe and clean environment in the state.

Towoju, who made the call during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, described the corps as one of the best with enforcement of laws, pointing out that the major challenges during the monthly sanitation exercise were compliance with and enforcement of environmental laws.

He noted that the exercise is to sensitize the populace on their civil responsibility.

The commissioner stressed that the State Government would ensure the provision of vehicles for evacuation of wastes during the monthly sanitation exercise, while calling for participation of corps members in the stakeholders’ environmental
sanitation committee meetings.

Responding, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kwara State Command, Mr Gana Yerima, emphasized that the corps will support and participate in the State Government’s efforts at ensuring a conducive environment for the citizenry.

The commandant, however, appealed to the state government to make available vehicles which, according to him, will assist in monitoring so as to ensure proper participation in the sanitation exercise.
