Kwara Partners With UNICEF And Global Fund To Revamp Five Key Health Centres
The Kwara State Government has solidified its partnership with the Global Fund and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to revitalise five Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities. This initiative is being executed under the Global Fund COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) Grant.
Professor Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), confirmed the development during a visit from UNICEF representatives. She noted that the project is designed to bridge infrastructural gaps and ensure that residents in underserved communities have access to high-quality medical services.
The five facilities approved for this upgrade are:
- Mobile Health Clinic, Okuta (Baruten LGA)
- Basic Health Care Centre, Kulende (Ilorin South LGA)
- Primary Health Care Centre, Ojagboro (Ilorin East LGA)
- Primary Health Care Centre, Ilofa (Oke Ero LGA)
- Model Primary Health Care Centre, Kpada (Patigi LGA)
The revitalisation will focus on comprehensive building renovations, the installation of solar power systems for 24/7 electricity, and the construction of boreholes to provide potable water. Additionally, the centres will be supplied with essential medical equipment based on a "gap analysis" conducted by UNICEF.
To ensure the projects are completed on schedule, Professor Elelu stated that a focal officer has been assigned to coordinate with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the contractors. She reassured the public that medical services at these locations will not be disrupted during the construction phase.
Elelu reiterated the state government's commitment to working closely with all partners and expressed deep appreciation to the Global Fund and UNICEF for their continued collaboration and shared commitment to strengthening primary health care systems and improving health outcomes for the people of the state.
Earlier, Gamaliel Ismaila Dargam, the UNICEF representative, explained that Kwara State remains a priority beneficiary of the intervention, stating that five facilities are scheduled for implementation in the state.
He commended the state government for its commitment to ensuring access to quality health care for all residents, promising that UNICEF would fully deliver on its responsibilities under the partnership.
