Kwara Students Secure Top Honours at National Kids Innovation Challenge 2025

Date: 2025-09-25

Kwara State has once again taken the spotlight on the national stage as students from the Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme excelled at the National Kids Innovation Challenge 2025, organised by The Destiny Trust.

The prestigious competition, held on 20 September 2025 at the Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, brought together ten of the brightest young innovation teams from across Nigeria, showcasing groundbreaking solutions in agriculture, health, logistics, education, and connectivity.

Kwara State was proudly represented by two finalist teams:

Agritech Mini Dashboard from Igbaja Centre

VBOT Innovators - Virtual Doctor Bot from Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin

Notably, Agritech Mini emerged among the top three winners of the competition.

Out of the ten national finalists, the Igbaja Agritech Mini Dashboard team emerged among the top three winners, with a solution designed to empower farmers with curated market prices, weather forecasts, planting insights, and real-time security incident reporting. Their project, developed with data from the Igbaja community, emphasizes localization, scalability, and food security. Notably, they were the only non-hardware-based project to break into the top three, a testament to the depth of innovation coming from Kwara students.

The VBOT Innovators also impressed with their health-focused chatbot, designed to analyze symptoms, provide recommendations, and guide patients to nearby medical facilities with emergency contact integration.

The National Kids Innovation Challenge 2025 saw nine student teams from Kwara submit projects, four advancing to the pre-demo stage, and two making it to the finals underscoring Kwara State's rising reputation as a hub for youth-driven innovation.

Speaking on the achievement, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Innovation commended the students' hard work, creativity, and resilience: "This success is a clear reflection of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's visionary investment in digital literacy and human capital development. For the first time, government school students in Kwara are competing and winning on the national innovation stage. This is historic."

The Kwara Coding and Digital Literacy Programme, an initiative of the Kwara State Government, continues to nurture creativity, problem-solving, and technical skills among young people. With mentorship and training support from Kidstech Africa, these young innovators have proven that Kwara is setting the pace for excellence in digital innovation.

The winning projects will also feature prominently at the upcoming Kwara Coding & Digital Literacy Exhibition scheduled for October 2025, where more student innovations will be showcased to the public.
