Webfala Initiative Aims to Make Kwara a Leader in E-STEM and Robotics Education
The non-governmental organisation Webfala Digital Skills for All Initiative (WDSFaI) has trained 60 ICT-focused educators from schools across Kwara State in E-STEM (Environment, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and robotics education.
The programme aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge to integrate E-STEM and robotics into classroom teaching. Mrs Nafisat Bakare, Executive Director of WDSFaI, stated during the event in Ilorin that the training targeted educators with limited prior exposure to these fields.
She explained that the initiative aims to empower teachers to share their newfound skills with students, fostering digital literacy and innovation. As part of its broader efforts, the organisation selected 17 schools in Kwara to receive free robotic kits and dedicated training sessions for their pupils.
WDSFaI also plans to launch robotics education for children aged 9-14, supported by Pratt and Whitney and the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE).
Since its establishment in 2028, the NGO has trained thousands of teachers, students and women in environment, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (E-STEM) to prepare them for future opportunities.
In his remarks, a robotics specialist, Mr. Michael Joseph, stressed the need to introduce robotics into STEM education. He said that technology skills like coding and robotics have the power to change the world. He added that it was important to instil curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills in young students that will prepare them for the future of work.
