UNIJOS Alumni Inaugurate Kwara Chapter to Drive Success and Institutional Legacy
The Kwara State Chapter of the University of Jos Alumni Association (UJAA) has been officially launched with a call to prioritise research and networking as key drivers for success.
During the inauguration, UNIJOS alumni were also urged to uphold the good reputation of their alma mater and attract meaningful opportunities for its growth.
Nuhu Johnson Sani, President of the University of Jos Alumni Association Worldwide, delivered the keynote address following the swearing-in of the Kwara State Chapter's executives at the Boardroom of the University of Ilorin.
Sani emphasised the pivotal role Alumni Associations play in the lives of members, the development of educational institutions, and the betterment of society, noting that Alumni can offer career guidance, mentorship, and networking opportunities to current students and recent graduates.
Sani, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni (North Central), noted that the UJAA currently has active Chapters in 26 States, working collectively to support educational development.
Yahya Oyewole Imam, Professor of Islamic Studies, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated chapter, describing its members as individuals of integrity dedicated to driving progress through research and problem-solving.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Imam pledged the University of Ilorin's continuous support for the chapter's initiatives in Kwara.
Deborah Adejare, Convener of the Kwara Chapter of UJAA, described the Association as more than just an organisation.
"An Alumni association is where connections are rekindled, wisdom and experiences are shared, and, most importantly, where we come together to give back to the institution that shaped us.
"This is a network of great minds, one that exists to support each other in both our personal and professional journeys. As alumni, we carry forward the legacy of our great alma mater, the University of Jos. I urge us all to remain engaged, active, and dedicated to contributing meaningfully to our university", she said.
Segun Oyewo, Professor of Performing Arts; Friday Otun, Professor of Linguistics and Abdulgafar Ijaya, Professor of Economics, along with Yakubu Mustapha, suggested establishing an endowment fund for members, fostering deeper member engagement, and promoting knowledge sharing and mentorship.
They also recommended strategic collaboration with Government Agencies and the organisation of regular conferences to present research aimed at addressing national challenges.
