Kwara Education Commissioner Urges Stakeholders to Champion Quality Learning at Policy Engagement
Stakeholders in the education sector have been urged to take a central role in shaping the nation's educational future by leveraging their expertise, insights, and commitment to ensure inclusive, high-quality learning for all.
The call was made by the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, during a stakeholders' engagement session on the National Education Quality Assurance Policy and its Implementation, held in Ilorin on Wednesday.
Dr. Olohungbebe emphasized that the goal of the one-day programme was to guarantee that Nigeria's education system delivers the highest possible quality of learning experiences to learners across all levels.
He noted that the Quality Assurance Bureau, established in Kwara State in 2009, was created as a strategic intervention to combat the declining standard of education, improve the quality of inspection tools, and standardize inspection reporting.
“The Bureau serves as a critical feedback mechanism through which government and stakeholders receive reliable, data-driven evaluations of the education sector's performance,” he explained. “This mechanism plays a vital role in guiding the implementation of education reform policies in the state.”
Dr. Olohungbebe reiterated the state government's commitment under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to uphold quality education, while also calling for continued collaboration among educators, administrators, policymakers, and civil society actors to strengthen outcomes and build a robust education system for future generations.
He hailed Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his unwavering commitment to education and vision for a brighter future for the children.
According to the commissioner, “the state government has made significant strides in improving the education system and has invested heavily in infrastructure, with the construction of new schools and the renovation of existing ones.
“The state government has also implemented innovative programmes aimed at improving teachers' training and learners' outcomes, adding these factors have greatly improved the quality of Education in Kwara State,” he added.
Continuing, he stressed, “As stakeholders, we are expected to play a vital role in shaping the future of education in our state. Your input, expertise, and commitment are vital in ensuring that our education system meets the needs of all learners.”
In his keynote address, the Director, Quality Assurance, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Ademola Babawale, noted that the government had put in place every machinery to improve the quality of education in the Country.
Babawale maintained the need for uniformity, continuous monitoring, supportive supervision, assessment, and evaluation of schools to ensure standards, improve, and sustain the quality of education in the country for improved learning outcomes.
The programme was attended by traditional rulers, PTA officials, members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools in Kwara State.
