IEYDA Urges Kwara Government and Property Owners to Engage in Peaceful Dialogue Over Demolitions
As reported by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA) has called on the Kwara State Government and property owners to engage in constructive dialogue concerning the ongoing demolitions in Ilorin.
In a statement, IEYDA's National President, Abdullahi Babatunde Salau, and National Secretary, Tajudeen Abdullahi, urged for restraint and a peaceful resolution of the issues at hand.
The association said, “The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association urges the state government to engage in constructive dialogue with affected property owners to resolve issues surrounding the demolished shops and property. This dialogue should align with the Land Use Act and other extant laws of the state. Government policies should prioritise human value and stakeholder engagement. While residents must adapt to development initiatives, it is crucial for the government to foster understanding before and after taking action. This collaborative approach will ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for Ilorin Emirate and Kwara youths. We advocate development accompanied by peace, rather than development at the expense of peace.”
The association urged stakeholders to prioritise the interests of Ilorin Emirate and its people, upholding the community's renowned values of peace, love, and harmony.
It stated, “We urge the youth to actively promote peace in Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State, despite our differences. We request that key stakeholders and community leaders intervene to find a lasting and fair solution to the current issue, ensuring a better future. The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association will continue to oppose any policy that inconveniences our people, regardless of its potential benefits. We will not tolerate individuals or groups insulting our traditional rulers, institutions, and respected scholars. We hold our heritage custodians in high esteem and appeal to all to refrain from exploiting the current situation to disrespect them.” The state government is currently demolishing shops and property in the Ilorin metropolis as part of efforts to implement the Ilorin Master Plan.
