Masses now seek only responsive politicians – Emir Of Ilorin
The Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, has observed that the improvements in the country's electoral system have made it possible for voters to look out for only responsible politicians during elections.
The Emir spoke in Ilorin when the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kwara Central Senatorial District, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, paid him homage in his palace.
The Emir reminded Mustapha, who is also the Turaki of Ilorin, that politicians' antecedents are what guide the electorate in making their choices, stressing that apart from his qualification for the position of Senator, the APC candidate has shown empathy for the people through his philanthropic activities.
Dr. Gambari stated: “You are a true blue blood, who has contributed to the development of the state and we will certainly give you our mandate to represent us. In line with your Turaki title, which is synonymous to an ambassador, we are sending you to the Senate as our representative to do our bidding.
“You are over qualified, we know your antecedents and we need a leader who will bring big impact to our society.”
We know your competence and we are sure the strategies you adopted in building your business empire will be replicated in building our society and the emirate as a whole.”
Emphasising that Mallam Mustapha is the Emirate's choice for the February 25 2023 senatorial election for Kwara Central, the Emir recalled his (Mustapha's) contribution to the overall development of the constituency, saying that the Senate would afford him the opportunity to do more.
Earlier, Mallam Mustapha told the Emir that he decided to pay homage and seek royal blessings before the commencement of his campaign.
He thanked the Emir for the fatherly counsel and endorsement, even as he pledged to do more than he had done to support the emirate if elected a senator.
“I will like to thank you for the show of support you and the emirate have given me. I really appreciate the gesture; the people of Ilorin have showed me overwhelming love as it took me over two hours to get here from the airport and I feel indebted to deliver to my people if given the mandate,” the Turaki stated.
He stressed that his campaign message is anchored on reducing poverty in the senatorial district, strategic collaboration with relevant stakeholders, human capital development and responsible representation.
