KWASU to partner Kwara Television in staff, students' development

Date: 2022-05-12

The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, says it will partner with Kwara State Television (KWTV) for staff development and deployment of students for internship training.

The KWASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mustapha Akanbi, said this on Wednesday when the board members of the Kwara Television Authority paid him a courtesy visit in Malete.

Akanbi said the move has become imperative because media are worthy partners that would help the school more in its practical teaching and learning of mass communication.

He advised all state parastatals to follow the good example of Kwara TV to collaborate with one another for the overall development and common good of the state.

The vice-chancellor commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his exemplary policy of non-interference in the running of KWASU, but rather adding value to the university and supporting the institution at all times.

Akanbi said the university enjoys the personal intervention of the governor in overcoming most of its pressing challenges.

” This is in areas such as the construction of an access road to the university and securing the needed funds for the accreditation for its law programme.

” The governor also helped in procuring equipment for Astronomical and Aeronautical Engineering programmes as well as connecting the institution with donor agencies.

” He also assisted the institution in the provision of funds to execute its E-learning programme during COVID-19.

” Also, with the governor's intervention, works have reached an advanced stage in the construction of both the Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses of the state-owned tertiary institution,” he said.

Earlier, the Kwara TV Board Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Adio, stressed the importance of education in the development of any society.

Adio expressed delight that in spite of the challenges being faced by our country in different areas, parents, guardians, children and wards still accord tertiary education top priority.

He noted that 54,000 candidates from Kwara are involved in the ongoing JAMB UTME, describing the rest as one of the highest in the north-central geo-political zone, to which Kwara belongs.

He commended the KWASU vice chancellor for ensuring that his institution is still in session in spite of the lingering ASUU strike and for his prompt response and approval of the board's request for the courtesy visit even at very short notice.
