YIAGA: NotTooYoungToRun strategy team honours Kwara State coordinator

The NotTooYoungToRun strategy team has commended the Kwara State coordinator, Abideen Olasupo, of the movement for his unflinching support to the success of the NotTooYoungToRun bill.

At a meeting which held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria, 29 state coordinators of the movement converge for a reflection meeting after the NotTooYoungToRun Bill had been signed into law 16 months ago, on 31st May, 2018.

According to the movement, the aim of the meeting was to brainstorm on major challenges encountered during the campaign and to make recommendations that would enable the campaign to achieve her goals in Nigeria and beyond on or before 2023.

During the brainstorming session, the Kwara State Coordinator, Abideen Olasupo, while sharing his experience attributed the success to his State working team for dedicating time, money and resources to see to the success of the bill despite the challenges from some stakeholders who didn't want the bill to become a reality.

He appreciated the Kwara State Governor for appointing the youngest commissioner in the state and as well deeming it fit to be working with young person. According to him, so far as more than 60% of his aides and cabinet member are young persons.

He expressed his happiness, stating that the result of the advocacy in Kwara is visible to the whole world, as he dedicated his certificate of appreciation to his working team and members of his nonprofit "Brain Builders International."

"We need to go back to the grassroot and start teaching Political Education in lieu of Civic Education," he said. Adding that, the movement has a responsibility to ensure that those who gets party ticket to contest in elections are young people with profile and positive track records.

The SDGs expert whose organisation translated the SDGs for localisation of the goals, reiterated that the movement also need to ensure that the electoral laws are reviewed to convey the yearning and aspirations of young people.
