Emir Shonga Wants Govt to Focus More attention on the Development of Primary Healthcare

The three tiers of government have been told to focus more attention on the development of Primary Healthcare to eradicate most of the common diseases in the Society.

The Chairman, National Primary Healthcare, Doctor Haliru Ndanusa Yahaya, stated this while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on the Challenges confronting Primary Healthcare in the Country.

Doctor Yahaya who is the Emir of Shonga in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State said the concept of the Primary Healthcare was designed to allow the people have access to healthcare services, especially at the grassroots.

According to him, if governments give proper attention to Primary Healthcare, most of the diseases, especially Polio, Guinea-worm, Leprosy and other diseases would be a thing of the past in Nigeria.

He advocated proper funding of the sector with a view to ensuring qualitative healthcare services for the people.

Doctor Yahaya said the steps taken by the Kwara State government in its Primary healthcare scheme was commendable especially with the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme in the rural areas.

He commended Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed's administration for renovating five General Hospitals in the State and called on the government to make available enough medical equipment to achieve the desired goals.
