Kwara secondary schools tennis championship holds October

Kwara State Tennis Association, with the support of Optiweb Communications will stage the maiden edition of All-Kwara State Secondary Schools Tennis championship between 3rd to 5th October, at the tennis court of the Kwara State Stadium Complex.

While briefing newsmen on the development, the Chairman of the association, Tope Daramola, said that the association is doing all within its reach to promote the sport in the state and Nigeria.

Daramola, who spoke through a member of the association, Alhaji Ibrahim Olesin said that part of their efforts have yielded positive result, with the acceptance of Optiweb Communications to sponsor the three-day championship, where new talents will be discovered.

He charged other well meaning Kwarans and philanthropists to emulate Optiweb Communications by supporting sports at the grassroots, in line with the aspirations of the state government.

The Chief Executive Officer of Optiweb Communications, Timothy Adeleye, said that the competition is part of the company's corporate social responsibility and a way of giving back to the society.

Adeleye, a tennis player himself, and former student of Baboko Community Secondary School in Ilorin said one of the challenges facing the development and growth of tennis is lack of adequate basic resources which includes facilities; even as he added that the trend is changing for better gradually.

Over 100 players from all the 16 Local Government Areas of the state are expected to participate in the championship which will have Singles and Doubles events in both male and female categories.
