Gbemi's defection announcement in due course - Saraki
Former governor of Kwara State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in the state yesterday spoke on the report of his sister, Gbemisola Saraki's defection to the APC, saying a formal announcement would soon be made on it.
Gbemi Saraki, who is the first daughter of Second Republic Senate Leader and a governorship aspirant of the PDP on Friday asked her supporters to vote for APC during Saturday's presidential election even though she had kept mum on her purported defection.
But all indications have pointed to her resignation from PDP as one of her famous aides and women leader of the party in the state, Hajia Nimota Ibrahim has already resigned from the PDP. Gbemi, who addressed her supporters when she arrived Ilorin on Friday, asked them to go out on Saturday with broom (symbol of APC) and "sweep their communities clean."
Her defection from PDP was a fallout of her alleged marginalisation in the party where a section of the party is said not to be disposed to her membership. However, her brother with whom she fell out during the 2011 elections when he opposed her governorship ambition, spoke on the raging defection story yesterday during her interactive session with journalists.
Asked to comment on the rumoured defection, he stated that a formal announcement would be made on it in due course, adding that "things are definitely happening."
Daily Trust reliably gathered that a public gathering is being planned by the APC where Gbemi would formally announce her return to the APC fold which would further put paid to the rumour of the frosty relationship between her and her brother who is the scion of the Olusola Saraki dynasty.
