A Professor of African Languages, Tradition and Literary, Olabiyi Yai, says Nigeria needs purposeful and dynamic leaders for it to play its leadership role in the African continent.

Professor Yai, a Multilingual University Don, said this while delivering the second Convocation Lecture of the Kwara State University, Malete, North Central Nigeria, held at the University auditorium with the title ‘ Orientation, Lost and Found’.

The Former Permanent Representative of the Republic of Benin to UNESCO, said African countries must strive to develop their potentials and ensure the growth and development of the continent by working collectively to attain the desired goals.

Professor Yai, stressed the need for African countries to look towards the Eastern part of the world, by studying some of the languages peculiar to Asian countries, pointing out that in future, there would be paradigm shift from West to East.

He called on Nigerian Universities, particularly the Kwara State University to float programmes on Asian studies, describing it as a lofty idea that would help Nigeria to identify with the East.

The International renowned scholar asked Nigeria to redouble its effort by developing all its potentials and harnessing its numerous resources to develop technologically.

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, said African countries didn't realise that the World is moving, as he pointed out that the continent is endowed with fertile land, abundant human and natural resources to move globally.

Professor Na'Allah noted that Nigeria has the humanity tendencies and must take everything seriously, by developing technologically, educationally and in the area of entrepreneurship, so as to play its roles in the African continent effectively.

The Vice Chancellor called for collaboration and synergy between the Asian and African countries, especially in the area of technology transferable for African countries to develop its local resources towards developing its technological capacities.

Professor Na'Allah, charged Nigerian leaders to be purposeful, dynamic, visionary and committed to the progress and development of Nigeria by utilising it's abundant resources for the development of the nation.
