For Ahmad Ali, It's Swimming to the Rescue
Hon. Ahmad Ali from Ilorin East/South federal constituency area of Kwara State swims to suppress stress, writes Hammed Shittu.
To the people of Ilorin East/Ilorin South federal constituency of Kwara State, their representative in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmad Ali, has become a trail blazer in the delivery of dividends of democracy to its constituents since elected almost three years ago. Ali, a legal practitioner and former senior lecturer at the faculty of law, University of Ilorin, Kwara State was appointed Chief of Staff, Government House under the administration of former governor Bukola Saraki, now senator representing Kwara Central senatorial district.
He distinguished himself in the day to day affairs of his office which would later endear him to Saraki, who unilaterally gave him the ticket to represent his constituency during the 2011 general election. Since his election into the lower chamber of the National Assembly, he has taken the welfare of his constituents as a major priority to the extent that it has further endeared him to the people due to his contributions to the development of the people of the constituency.
The people of his constituency had benefited so much from his empowerment programme which included the provision of employment opportunities for the unemployed graduates, educational assistance to the sons and daughters of the less privileged in his constituency in the state, among others. Fondly called "Ali Dodo" by his political admirers and supporters in the state, the lawmaker has been a force in the various decisions on the floor of the House and this has made him more popular in the parliament.
A doctorate degree holder at law, Ali was appointed the chairman, House Committee on Justice and has been in the forefront of championing human rights issues and prison reforms among others. These, among others, had brought a new lease of life to the people of Kwara and Nigerians in general. Ali had distinguished himself amongst his peers in the National Assembly and was among the 37 lawmakers who cross-carpeted from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC)
To his credit are many sponsored bills, majority of which bother on the wellbeing of the Nigerian populace. But after each day's work, Ali still finds time to relax and balance the stress of the day by engaging in swimming. He said relaxation through swimming provides him the chance to keep the body together and prepare the brain ahead of the next day's work.
