Kwara SURE-P Allays Fears of Beneficiaries' Sack
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic P, All Progressives Congress (APC) and 15 other political parties have no records before the State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), the commission has announced.
The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ forum and unveiling of 2012-2016 strategic plan organised by the commission.
Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Chief Timothy Ibitoye listed the other parties to include the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) and Social Democratic Party (SDP), among others.
Members of the PDP in the state recently broke away to join the Kawu Baraje-led new PDP before merging with the APC.
As at the time, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State, his predecessor, Senator Bukola Saraki and their supporters merged with the APC and the opposition party has no executive committee in place , while the PDP has also not constituted an interim executive committee in the state.
At the forum attended by representatives of political parties and civil society organizations, none of the participants introduced himself as either a member of the PDP or APC.
Meanwhile, stakeholders at the forum scolded the INEC for the way it conducted the Anambra governorship election, appealing to it to improve on future polls.
State Secretary of the Labour Party, Abdulmumeen Onagun said his party was particularly disappointed with the INEC on the stalemate initially recorded in the election, charging INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega to ensure that all inadequacies are redressed because “Nigerians are looking up to you to have a better nation”.
