Nigeria'S Supersand Eagles' striker, Abu Azeez has dedicated his Most Valuable Player (MVP) award won at the just concluded COPA Lagos Beach Soccer tournament to his late father, Abu Adeboye.

The Kwara United star had a glorious campaign netting the first hat-trick of the tournament in the team's opening game against Germany before capping it with a lone strike over Senegal in the last game.

"This MVP award is a great honour and I feel excited. I'm thankful to God for it. It wasn't easy at all but all the same I have to appreciate the Almighty for this feat. I want to dedicate it to my late father Abu Adeboye. It is very important for me and my career," he told SportingLife.

Azeez said he had to take responsibility in the absence of key players like captain Isiaka Olawale and Batholomew Ibenegbu.

"I missed them so much because if they had been around, sometimes I wouldn't lack I would just play and relax but I just had to take responsibility since they were not around."

He also expressed appreciation to the fans for cheering the team throughout the tournament.

"The fans really motivate me so much. Ever since this beach soccer started, the fans are the ones helping me in terms of motivation and I do thank them for that."

Azeez however informed SportingLife that the area he grew up aided his performance in beach soccer tournaments.

"I grew in from Iyana-Iba area of Lagos and the pitches there are sandy. So I think I got familiar with beach soccer from there."
