Two Persons to Die By Hanging Over Political Crisis

For shooting two persons dead in the heat of political crisis in Kwara State in the last dispensation, an Ilorin High Court has sentenced to death by hanging two persons, namely Bayo Ajia and Olayinka Are. Justice Joseph Fola Gbadeyan said that the two accused persons were guilty of the offence carried out in Ilorin on June 30th., 2002, and consequently ordered that the two convicts be hanged by the neck until they are dead.

The accused according to Justice Gbedeyan were found guity of shooting to death Abdulyekeen Gobir, and AbdulGaniyu Huseini at a wedding party held at Deens Motel, Western Reservior Road,Ilorin on the said day.The judge said the accused persons, Bayo Ajia and Olayinka are were guilty of the two count charges of conspiracy and culpable homicide punishable by death under sections 97 and 221 of the penal code.Justice Gbadeyan in his judgement said he was convinced that the burden of the case had been proved beyond reasonable doubt by the prosecutor, and that the two convicts actually conspired and committed the offence.He particularly noted that he believed the evidence of the first prosecution witness who was the brother of the deceased, who told the court that he saw the convicts pumping gun shots into his brother. "
