Bank driver remanded for causing death
The order to remand the accused was made by an Ilorin Magistrate Court before which he appeared on a one-count charge of causing death by dangerous driving, contrary to Section 23 of Road Traffic Act.
Oguwu was said to have on March 22 drove a Mitsubishi pick-up van with registration number DZ 597 LSD along Sango, old Jebba road, Ilorin, in a dangerous manner without regard to other Road users.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that as a result of his reckless driving he hit a pedestrian, Hawawu Jimoh of Alagbede Village, via Kwara Poly Gate, Old Jebba Road, Ilorin and thereby causing her untimely death.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Bilikisi Adu, who had informed the court that the alleged offence was not ordinarily bailable, objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody until the next adjourned date.
Magistrate N.K. Ajide granted the oral application of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
The court adjourned the case till April 7 for further mention.
