Vandalism: IPMAN donates arms, ammunition to NSCDC
Determined to curtail vandalism of petroleum pipelines and activities of vandals, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Kwara chapter at the weekend presented ammunition worth N8.5million to the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The acting Chairman of the Association in Kwara, Alhaji AbdulRasheed Olopade presented the items which included two patrol vans and four motorbikes to the state Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Yerim Gana.
The presentation came few days after members of IPMAN as well as representatives of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) visited Budo-Jesu, 0gbomoso in Oyo State where three suspected pipeline vandals were apprehended with 231 containers by men of the "Operation Bust" of the Oyo State command.
The pipeline which the suspected vandals attempted to blow up supplies petroleum from Ibadan to Ilorin depot.
The IPMAN chairman explained the donation was part of the association's contribution to the protection of pipelines against vandalism and theft.
He called on other security agencies to support the Federal Government in its effort to protect oil pipelines against vandalism and theft.
The Acting Chairman advised the Kwara command of NSCDC to make judicious use of the items for the monitoring of oil pipelines in the State.
Responding, the commandant praised the foresight of the association for the donation, assuring that the command would make judicious use of the items to end activities of pipeline vandals.
