MHWUN Honours Kwara Health Commissioner for Advancing Healthcare Delivery
The Medical and Health Workers' Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), North Central Zone, has honoured the Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, alongside other notable individuals for their contributions to improving healthcare delivery in the state.
Dr El-Imam received the award on behalf of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq during the MHWUN North Central Zonal Conference held in Ilorin.
Speaking at the event, the commissioner conveyed the governor's appreciation to health workers for their dedication, resilience and commitment to providing quality healthcare services across Kwara State.
She reaffirmed the administration's resolve to expand access to affordable, quality and people-centred healthcare through sustained investments in primary and secondary healthcare facilities.
Dr El-Imam said the government also recognises healthcare workers as the foundation of the health system and has continued to prioritise their welfare, professional development and career growth.
According to her, the state recently trained 90 doctors and midwives on Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) while sustaining regular capacity-building programmes for healthcare personnel.
She added that the government has implemented the 2024 Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), paid the approved hazard allowance, approved professional training opportunities and continued the recruitment and promotion of qualified health workers across relevant institutions.
The commissioner also disclosed that the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) has been consistently paid for 2024, 2025 and 2026, while study leave approvals and regular engagements with labour unions have remained part of efforts to improve staff welfare and strengthen industrial harmony.
She assured health workers that the AbdulRazaq administration would continue to create an enabling working environment and provide the necessary support to enhance healthcare delivery across the state.
Describing the conference as a valuable platform for collaboration, Dr El-Imam urged participants to develop practical solutions to healthcare financing and service delivery that would benefit communities across the North Central region.
Responding on behalf of the award recipients, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Hospital Management Board, Dr Malik Abdulraheem, described the recognition as a testament to the state government's commitment to improving healthcare services.
He commended health workers for their dedication and encouraged the union to continue promoting professionalism and high ethical standards among its members.
Earlier, the National President of MHWUN, Dr Kabiru Ado Sani, represented by the union's General Secretary, Comrade Yusuf Kiyawa, urged health workers to remain committed to their responsibilities, assuring them that the union would continue engaging governments at all levels to advance members' welfare.
