Kwara United Vow Strong Comeback After CAF Confederation Cup Exit
Kwara United have pledged to return stronger after their elimination from the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup at the preliminary stage.
The Nigerian side suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Ogun State, exiting the competition with a 3-5 aggregate loss.
Needing an outright victory to advance, the Harmony Boys dominated large portions of the match but were undone by a solitary goal from Hubert Gyalu in the 53rd minute a clinical finish that sealed the fate of the tie.
In a statement released yesterday, Club Chairman Kumbi Titiloye expressed deep regret over the early exit, describing it as "painful and regrettable."
He extended a heartfelt apology to fans, supporters, and stakeholders, urging them to forgive the team while reaffirming its determination to learn, rebuild, and return to continental football with greater force.
"The dream didn't end here," Titiloye said. "We are hurting just like our fans but this setback will only fuel our resolve."
With domestic commitments looming, Kwara United now turn focus to the Nigeria Premier Football League, aiming to reclaim momentum and lay the foundation for future continental qualification.
Kwara United will now focus solely on the ongoing Nigeria top-flight for a chance to return to the continent with a home tie against Plateau United on Thursday.
