Three Killed, Two Injured in Ifelodun Fulani Camp Attack: Security Analyst Links to Mining Site Clash
Three people were killed and two others injured in an attack on a Fulani settlement in Gaa Fulani, near Bankole, Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA), Kwara State. The assault is suspected to be a retaliatory response to the killing of Shabba Ndabata, a Nupe man, at the Ndabata mining site earlier the same day.
Security expert Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency analyst and researcher in the Lake Chad region, detailed the incident in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday. He reported that the attack occurred around Tuesday and involved assailants storming the camp, firing shots, and setting parts of it ablaze, according to eyewitnesses.
The violence underscores ongoing tensions between ethnic groups in the region, with Makama highlighting the need for urgent intervention to prevent further escalation.
"In the ensuing violence, one Gambo Abubakar was reportedly burnt alive, while another victim, identified as Yabo, was shot dead. Two others, Abubakar Mohammad and Abubakar Tambaya, sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to Oke-Ode Maternity Hospital for treatment.
"In response to the incident, a stakeholders' peace meeting was held in the community involving Fulani and Nupe leaders to forestall further violence," Makama said.
He added that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend the attackers, while security operatives have intensified surveillance to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the area.
