Kwara Outlines Tech-Driven Security Strategy to Military Visitors Amid Emerging Threats
The Kwara State Government has announced plans to adopt a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to address emerging security challenges and mitigate threats in the state.
Professor Mamman Saba Jibril, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), made the pledge during a welcome address to participants of Senior Course 47 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (Jaji), who are on a study tour of Kwara State.
Professor Jibril acknowledged Kwara's reputation as one of Nigeria's most peaceful states but stressed that it is not immune to growing security threats. He outlined the state's strategy, which includes strengthening community policing, investing in surveillance technology, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration.
The SSG urged the visiting delegation to utilise their study tour to gather data that could inform solutions to security challenges in Kwara and beyond.
In his response, the team leader, Colonel Mohammed, expressed hope that the team would have access to adequate data to enable them to develop actionable recommendations to enhance both state and national security.
On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, gunmen killed six people at the Ilesah Baruba motor park in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State. The assailants attacked the park, shot indiscriminately, and also injured two other persons.
This prompted Lt General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, to direct Nigerian soldiers to flush out the new terrorist group in the Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas of Kwara State.
