No New Billboards: Kwara Maintains Ban but Permits Flex Updates
The Kwara State Taskforce on Billboards and Signages has announced a partial relaxation of restrictions on outdoor advertising, maintaining its ban on new billboard installations while allowing updates to existing structures.
In a statement issued by Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, Commissioner for Communications and Chair of the Taskforce on Illegal Billboards and Signages, advertising practitioners are now permitted to replace flex banners on approved billboards and conduct routine maintenance. However, the prohibition on erecting new billboards remains strictly enforced, with violators facing heavy fines and legal action.
The taskforce also unveiled plans to launch a digital registration portal for outdoor advertising, aimed at simplifying permit applications and improving compliance monitoring.
Olukoju commended stakeholders for their cooperation during the state's urban renewal efforts, stressing the importance of preserving Kwara's aesthetic integrity.
