Kwara government pledges to construct rural roads in 2013
In a bid to drive Kwara State economy through agriculture, the State Government has reiterated its commitment to construct rural roads in order to enable free movement of input and output of farm products.
The State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Amuda Kannike, who disclosed this during an interview with Royal Times correspondent, said the state has been known to be an agrarian state.
He stressed that the appropriation of about 1.8billion for rural roads in the 2013 budget by the state government was a greater step to increase farmers output, which will eventually increase the state revenue in the long run.
According to him, the state will continue to construct feeder roads within the metropolis as a result of inadequate access roads leading to new developmental areas as the city continue to grow.
The Commissioner also explained that “ in a bid to control dust along rural roads, the state has introduced laterite lamination starting from barruti, Kahama and Edu.
“All we are doing now is to monitor the roads to determine its durability. The moment we are satisfied with the usage, we shall continue its usage on all rural roads across the state in order to control the dust.
In another development, an appeal has gone to the State Government to repair the bridge along Adelodun Street, Flower Garden in Ilorin the State capital.
Some residents of the area who made the appeal during an interview with Royal Times correspondent said the bridge collapsed during 2011 raining season, which according to him has been resulting to accident.
One of the residents, Mr Kabiru said the state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed recently visited the area for inspection of the bridge.
Speaking with the State Commissioner for Works and Transport on the matter, the commissioner said appropriate survey will commence soonest on how the bridge will be re-constructed at this dry season period.
He therefore assured residents of the area to put their mind at rest, saying it would be put into shape soon.
