Ex-Minister Cautions Tunubu on Giving Governors Control Over Security Forces
The Director General of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman has cautioned the new President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in giving power of security to the state governors.
The former minister of National Planning, argued that governors are not matured enough to have control over the police and other securities agencies in the country.
Professor Sulaiman gave the advise at the first Annual Public Lecture & Book Presentation of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Al-Hikmah University titled, Challenges of Democratic Governance in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, Setting Agenda for the Tinubu’s Administration.
Sobi FM's Toyin Saheed reports that Suleiman revealed that the nation's experience since 1999 have shown that some states governors have abused power, using Rivers and some states in the South East as an example among the states using security against perceived.
Suleiman however advised the new administration to give economic power to the state governors, in order to share the resources down to the grassroots.
The former minister of National Planning however urged president Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put more money in the local government to reduce criminality among the youths accross the country.
