NSCDC arrests mother, son for 'torturing 12-year-old girl over missing N2000 in Kwara
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has arrested a mother and her son for torturing a 12-year-old girl over missing N2,000 in Kwara.
They were said to have inflicted bodily injuries on the victim identified as Shukrah Suleiman.
NAN reports that Ayeni Olasunkanmi, NSCDC spokesperson in Kwara, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.
Olasunkanmi said the suspects, Adamo Yunusa, the mother, and her son, Saheed, battered the victim who sustained serious wounds all over her body.
He said the suspects were apprehended by the gender unit of the command, following a report by a concerned citizen in the area.
They were arrested at their residence in Ile Oniponmo, Ayelabowo in Oko-olowo area, Ilorin, the Kwara capital.
“The report was brought to the command headquarters by a concerned citizen who got information of the severe injuries inflicted on the girl by her Aunt and her son,” Olasunkanmi said.
“The two suspects were arrested at their residence in Ile Oniponmo, Ayelabowo in Oko-olowo area, Ilorin.
“The suspects claimed that the victim was beaten because she stole the sum of N2,000.”
Speaking on the incident, Muhammed Ibrahim, the NSCDC commandant in the state, said the suspects would be charged in court after investigations are completed.
Ibrahim asked residents to be vigilant and report suspected criminal activities to the command.
He added that the command would respond promptly to cases of domestic abuse and security issues across the state.
