National Youth Games to hold Oct 10 to 19

Date: 2021-07-06

The 2021 National Youth Games will be held in Ilorin, Kwara State between October 10 and 19, The PUNCH has learnt.

The date for the Games was contained in the letter dated July 2, addressed to the Directors of Sports across the federation, which was signed by Bode Durotoye for the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

The letter, which was titled "Invitation to the 2021 National Youth Games joint technical meeting in Ilorin, Kwara State" invited the Directors of Sports for a meeting between July 14 and 14 "to ensure adequate preparation as well as smooth organisation of the Games."

The PUNCH had reported that the 2020 edition of the Youth Games, which was initially billed for Ilorin between September 7 and 17, 2020 was postponed due to the ban on sporting activities following the outbreak of COVID-19.

Further efforts to stage the Games at a later date in 2020 were not successful as the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 failed to give a go-ahead.
